Description
Spanish Love Deception by Elena Armas is a new contemporary romance novel that is more like a fake-dating trope with slow-burn and even witty banter mixed in with it. In the book, we have Catalina (Lina) Martín, the young Spanish woman working in New York, who needs a date for her sister’s wedding in Spain to avoid judgment from her family and ex-boyfriend.
Lina is so eager to date that she lies to her family and informs them of an American boyfriend she already has. She did not, though, look forward to Aaron Blackford, her tall, handsome, and rather distant coworker, agreeing to pretend as her boyfriend in going to Spain. Because of the tension between them at work, Lina hates Aaron, but willing to accept the offer, they headed to Spain together.
As Aaron and Lina pretend to have a relationship to please her family and friends, sparks begin to fly between them, and Lina slowly comes to know that this guy is rather a caring one. The fake affair has become a real emotion as they have to deal with their feelings and reasons for hatred towards each other.
Themes:
A fake relationship is just the beginning. There’s a slow and beautiful connection between these two protagonists, who should lead into actual romance.
Personal Growth – In both Lina and Aaron, a lot of emotional baggage has to be overcome and their relationship helps heal all those hurts of the past.
The sense of family expectations and pressure propels through the story from a fictional perspective: how to balance one’s desires with familial expectations.
A lighthearted and humorous take on a love deception filled with seriously steamy romance, with a satisfying development of characters and their relationship. This is a charming, feel-good love story with really strong emotional beats.
