Description
Sparkling Cyanide is a mystery novel by Agatha Christie. It goes to print in 1945. A mysterious story, the novel centers around the deaths of two characters: Rosemary Barton and George Barton, who both die after having champagne laced with cyanide during a dinner party.
The plot of the novel begins with the demise of Rosemary, which is suspected to be a case of suicide. A year passes by and George, the husband, starts questioning whether it was indeed a case of poisoning. Thus, in order to prove this, he invites the very same set of people who were present when Rosemary died over to dinner at his place hoping that this would trap the murderer. It does not end like a plan because George gets poisoned as well, and the list of guest becomes the list of suspects of the murder committed.
Through a number of twists, the novel puts its themes on jealousy, greed, and betrayal. Christie shows marvelous skill in employing misdirection and double and triple perspectives, so that readers do not see an ending before it has come. Like many of her novels, Sparkling Cyanide is a classic whodunit full of suspense and surprise.
