Description
The 1248-page book, published posthumously in 1987 shortly after Shahab’s death, is his most notable work and a bestselling Urdu autobiography.
It details his childhood, education, career, entry into the Imperial Civil Service, views on Pakistan, and his religious and spiritual experiences. While Mushfiq Khwaja, a close friend of Shahab, criticised the book for its exaggerations, inaccuracies, and embellished truths, Dawn noted that despite Shahab’s reputation for integrity and Sufism, “he mainly told the truth but there were aspects he stretched.”
