Description
The “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” series is written by Jeff Kinney, very popular for its collection of children’s books in the form of Greg Heffley, a middle school student. The humorigously placed vicissitudes of adolescence are illustrated with simple drawings and comic strips. Here’s a brief overview of the full set of books as of 2024:
Main Series Books:
Diary of a Wimpy Kid, 2007. In the first book, we meet Greg Heffley and his angst-filled struggle through middle school, friendships, and above all, family dynamics. Greg starts keeping a diary-not a journal!-and shares with us his take on life and all its ills .
Rodrick Rules, 2008
In the sequel, Greg has to deal with his older brother Rodrick, who always seems to embarrass him. The movie continues further on to address their sibling rivalry and Greg and his attempts to navigate the roller coaster of life with his family.
The Last Straw (2009):
Greg’s father tries to teach him some form of discipline, and with very funny situations, he does it. Greg also dreads the military school and learns a few things about himself, and that helps him learn about his own lack of motivation and responsibility.
Dog Days (2009):
This is summer vacation. Greg just wants to have the perfect summer vacation; however, everything just went wrong especially with the family outing and a dog in the house.
The Ugly Truth (2010):
As Greg enters his adolescence, he has to deal not only with the changing dynamics of friendships but also complexity with growing-up issues like falling in love for the very first time.
Cabin Fever (2011)
On the snowy day, Greg stays in his house, where he is kept with his family. He finds several issues: school project pressure and chaotic conditions that come with being indoors.
Third Wheel (2012):
Greg is called to a school dance but fights the complications that come with dating and friendship. The movie consists of his quest to get a date and his funny mishaps.
Hard Luck (2013)
Greg’s best friend Rowley has a girlfriend, making Greg feel out of place. He starts the novel seeking another best friend during the challenges of friendship and loyalty.
The Long Haul, 2014:
The Heffley family takes a road trip which eventually turns into an all-out disaster of mishaps, unexpected encounters, and family feud.
Old School, 2015
Greg school is coming up with a “no technology week” where the kids will have to go about with the activities of old time.
The novel portrays the conflict between modernity and past.
Double Down (2016)
Greg’s life becomes YouTube stardom. He tries being a YouTube star while juggling school and family life.
Challenges in creativity and self-doubt
The Getaway (2017)
The Heffley family takes on a family vacation to a tropical resort. Greg’s attempts to enjoy the trip are thwarted with a series of mishaps and his family antics.
The Meltdown (2018)
This is set during a snowy winter whereby Greg’s neighborhood turns into a battleground for snowball fights that leads to a series of humors and things turning chaotic and out of hand.
Greg’s family embarks on a home improvement project that gets absolutely out of control. Series of Diary of a Wimpy Kid explores themes in which mess and chaos in the renovation of a home start showing.
The Deep End (2020):
Heffleys embark on a family camping trip but with a whole lot of unexpected twist. They get into a stream of misadventures on their camping adventure.
