Description

Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear is a creative guide by Elizabeth Gilbert. She helps readers unlock creativity and live more inspired, authentic lives. The book makes use of personal anecdotes, insights, and encouragement towards pursuing creative passions without holding back for fear or perfecting it.

The book comprises six sections that represent a different aspect of the journey:

Courage: Gilbert says that by definition, fear goes hand-in-hand with creativity, but that should not mean that the person is ruled by fear. She incites her reader to embrace fear instead of letting it control her.
Enchantment: She describes creativity as magic. It is almost mystic, Gilbert says. We have to be susceptible to them because ideas “visit” us, she adds.
Permission: Gilbert says that we don’t need anyone’s permission to create. We can do anything under the name of arts, writing, or something else just because we love it.
Perseverance: Creativity needs perseverance. Gilbert talks about herself and how she was always determined despite rejection and frustration.
Trust: Gilbert makes the reader trust the process and let creativity unfold just as it is without compulsion.
Divinity: She speaks of the sacred nature of creativity, making it a gift and a pleasure rather than a burden or an obligation.
Big Magic is inspiring with its motivational tone to live more creatively by letting go of all the things that hold it back-perfectionism and embracing curiosity and taking a risk. It is one call to pursue creative expression as a path to the more fulfilling and joyful life.
