Description

Beach Read is a recently published romance novel by Emily Henry, dated 2020. The plot in general involves two lowly writers, January Anderson and Gus Everett, struggling in their lives and careers.

January is a romance author, who has had her life radically altered by the death of her father and the discovery of his infidelity. She heads to her beach house in Michigan hoping to salvage some literary magic on her next novel, but finds herself unable to shake her slump. Over the fence lives Gus a literary fiction author with his own writing woes and disappointment with the publishing business.

The two writers have disparate writing styles and perspectives on life, and their competitive situation will eventually take on a life of its own as they present a bet: they will switch genres for the summer. January will pen literary fiction, and Gus will tackle romance. As they come into close creative contact, they also get in touch with their pasts, explore vulnerabilities, and get close to one another.

In Beach Read, love, grief, and complexities regarding relationships are the order of the day. It’s a comedy with moments of heart and poignancy, driven by witty banter and chemistry between January and Gus in a story about love, forms of artistic expression, and grueling relationships. And don’t forget-the book is a celebration of second chances, storytelling power, and the journey toward self-discovery.
