Never Never is a crime thriller co-authoring effort of James Patterson and Candice Fox. First published in 2016, Never Never is the first novel in the Detective Harriet Blue series, set against the backdrop of an intense mystery against the harsh Australian Outback.
It is a story by Harriet “Harry” Blue, the hard and stubborn female detective based in Sydney, Australia, whose life goes for a spin when her brother, Sam, is locked up under suspicion of being the Sydney serial killer. Convinced that Sam is innocent, she sets off to prove that Sam is not involved in the crimes.

Harry’s bosses move her to an outback mining town called “Never Never” in Western Australia, where miners begin to disappear mysteriously. Harry is assigned along with another investigator named Edward Whittacker, to investigate the disappearances. To Harry’s surprise, there seems to be a great conspiracy in this mining town by the workers and as she uncovers things gets risky higher step by step.

Themes
Family and loyalty- The element of Harry’s coming of age is emphasized by the fact that she’ll stand up for her brother, no matter what.
Justice and morality- A subjective theme for this book: it mingles the lines between justness, personal conscience, and sacrifice to achieve truth.
Loneliness-In a barren, unforgiving land, the task of survival amid Outback danger locates isolation
Harriet “Harry” Blue:An agressive passionate sleuth, in conflict with her present situation. She finds difficultly coming to terms with her professional and personal conflict, respectively.
Edward Whittacker:Harry’s elementary senior investigator. This is the detective who team up with Harry to make a solution for case.
Sam Blue:Harry’s brother. One among whom is charged with numerous serial killers’ murder crime scene, which propels Harry into an emotionally turbulent ride.
The novel is distinct by the speedy short chapters written by James Patterson and gritty, character-driven storytelling by Candice Fox. It moves with the speed of plot twists and actions, and there are times you wouldn’t want to put down your reader hook for too long.

Tone:
Dark, suspenseful, and full of tension with moments of intense emotions as Harry fights both personal and professional ones.

Never Never is really an exciting read especially for detective fiction, featuring an amazing heroine walking through a dark and dangerous landscape, very physical and emotional.
