Description

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is an informative book accompanying the whole Harry Potter series by J. K. Rowling. The first edition was published, going way back to 2001, under the authorship of Newt Scamander, the fictional Magizoologist whose story unfolds in the book. The book can be visualized as a textbook where students of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry used to refer while studying magical creatures described from all across the world.

From famous ones such as hippogriffs and dragons up to somewhat unknown ones that can only be seen on the sides of shelves, like bowtruckles and nifflers, among others. There are so many magical creatures it catalogues; each entry includes a description of the creature’s characteristics, habitat, and danger rating, giving the readers a comprehensive guide to the magical beasts in Rowling’s universe.

In 2016, the Fantastic Beasts book inspired the movie series that initiated with the movie of the same name which chronicles adventures involving Newt Scamander in the 1920s as he crosses the globe to study and protect magical creatures. The book and film series further the world-building of Harry Potter while focusing on the lore of magical creatures and their relationship to wizards.

The original book is funny and entertaining and gives the fan readers an authentic, realistic feel of the magical animal creatures. There are also many comical footnotes from Harry, Ron, and Hermione, who seem to treat it more like a textbook, much like any regular school book.
