In the Line of Fire: A Memoir by Pervez Musharraf, published in 2006, the memoir by the former President and military leader of Pakistan is an inside view of his life from early childhood to a military career and rise to power, coupled with his experiences as the leader of Pakistan during a stirring period in the country’s history. From the memoir, I get to know Musharraf’s personal view on most of the political events he was associated with and his governance perspective and his role in the making of modern Pakistan.

Personal Background and Early Life: Musharraf describes his early life, as his family had migrated from India to Pakistan at the time of partition in 1947, education, and military training. He gives details about the military career by which he attained ranks and was a participant in major conflicts between India and Pakistan.
1999 Military Coup: In the book, Musharraf describes the events of 1999 coup wherein Musharraf overthrew Nawaz Sharif-the then Prime Minister. He speaks of his version of the circumstances of the coup where he said that he did it in order to put a stop to political anarchy and in the process rescue Pakistan from corrupt leadership.
