Description

You’ve Reached Sam is a young adult novel of today by Dustin Thao. It is a story about the happening in which Julie was just a high school senior; however, everything in her life changed completely due to the death of Sam, her boyfriend, thereby forcing her to handle extreme grief and not cope with it at all. In this story, Julie has the opportunity to reach out to Sam, her boyfriend one last time, through a phone call.

But in a whirl of destiny, when Julie dials his number, Sam happens to pick up. Thus the book unfolds all their conversations as she works out her feelings regarding reality and life at Sam’s expense. The calls comfort her, allow her to find closure, and further a comprehensive understanding of their relationship and the pain while remembering Sam.

This is essentially one of those books about love, about loss, and healing–coping with grief while still honoring the memories of loved ones. Thao’s writings are movingly poignant and really prove the connection in Julie’s fight emotionally.

You’ve Reached Sam is an ultimate tale of young love and loss. It calls back to the readers the potential moments we have with the people around us, reminding them that there is always something more precious than taken for granted. The novel rings true to anyone who has ever experienced grief, which does not make it an easy read, but definitely very relatable
